BrushAndFloss Dental Implants

Our Raleigh-area dentists always want to save your natural teeth if at all possible. But if we can’t, or if you are already missing a tooth, dental implants are an excellent permanent replacement option. Favored by dentists and patients alike, dental implants look, feel, and function like your natural teeth. That means you can get back to talking, eating, and smiling with confidence again. At Riccobene Associates Family Dentistry, we offer start-to-finish implant dentistry services, so we can place your implant and give you a natural-looking restoration all right in one of our Raleigh-area dental offices.

What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a small titanium post that is inserted into the jawbone in place of a missing tooth. Because of its biocompatible material, the titanium fuses with the jawbone to create a strong, solid replacement tooth root. This root allows us to place a restoration – typically a crown, bridge, or denture – on top to complete your smile.

At Riccobene Associates Family Dentistry, we offer three different types of tooth replacements using implants.

  • Single-tooth replacement: A single implant replaces a single missing tooth. We top the implant with a natural-looking dental crown. Single-tooth replacements have the highest rate of success. They will never develop decay or need a root canal.
  • Multi-tooth replacement: We use a dental bridge, combined with dental crowns anchored either by natural teeth or by implants, to replace multiple teeth in a row.
  • Implant-supported dentures: Strategically placed implants are used to replace an entire arch of teeth. The denture is designed to snap in place over the implants, leaving it more secure than a traditional denture.
  • The first step of the implant process is to surgically place the small titanium post into the area of the jawbone where the missing tooth once was.
  • Implants are made with biocompatible materials, which allows for the post to permanently fuse with the jawbone over time.
  • Once the fusion is complete, we will place an abutment (connective piece) onto the implant to prepare it for the custom tooth restoration that we will affix on top.
  • Lastly, we'll attach your replacement tooth using the abutment. It will fill in the space from your missing tooth and complete your smile.

Why Dental Implants?

Dental implants are the preferred tooth replacement option for many reasons. Not only do they look and feel natural, but they are also strong enough to let you get back to eating all your favorite foods again. With implants, patients can:

  • Eat, drink, brush, and floss like normal
  • Maintain their facial shape
  • Prevent additional bone loss caused by missing teeth

Once your implant is healed, you can care for it just like you would your natural teeth. In fact, you should make sure that you have a good oral hygiene routine to keep your implant healthy. With proper care, it can last a lifetime!

The Dental Implant Procedure

If our team at Riccobene Associates Family Dentistry, we can complete the entire dental implant procedure in one of our dental offices. To start, we’ll make sure that your jawbone is strong enough for the implant. If it isn’t, we can perform a bone graft to encourage new bone material to grow. Once your jaw is ready, we surgically place the titanium implant into the space left behind by the missing tooth. Over the course of a few months, the titanium will fuse with the bone and give us a strong anchor for your restoration. Once the implant is healed, we’ll bring you in to design your restoration. During your initial consultation, we’ll go over the best restoration option for your needs and situation. After your restoration is placed, you’re all set! You can get back to a normal routine in no time. The implants process takes place over a number of different visits to our office, but we promise you’ll love the end result!

Dental Implant Facts

Are dental implants the best tooth replacement option?

Implants are permanent and natural-looking. They are also extremely durable and help to stop bone loss, which is common with missing teeth. For patients looking to complete their smile and get back to a normal life, implants are an excellent option.

Are dental implants permanent?

Simply put, yes! The titanium material fuses with the jawbone to provide a permanent and solid anchor for the restoration. As long as you properly care for the replacement tooth, it should last for many years to come.

How much do dental implants cost?

The cost of dental implants depends on the number of teeth being replaced, which tooth or teeth, the condition of your jawbone, and many other factors. When you come in for your one-on-one dental implant consultation, we’ll go over all of those variables that are unique to your situation, and we will use that information to give you an out-of-pocket cost estimate. We strive to make dental implants as affordable as possible. If you’re looking for a way to split your treatment costs, we accept CareCredit® third-party financing. We also offer great discounts on dental implants for members of our in-house Dental Membership Plan and accept most insurance!

Are dental implants safe for the elderly?

According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, dental implants are absolutely safe for senior patients. When we think of tooth replacement procedures for senior citizens, we typically imagine dentures, but dentures can sometimes get out of place and make chewing, talking, and smiling difficult. If you’re wondering if implants are the right choice for your golden years, come in for a one-on-one consultation with one of our dentists.

How can dental implants help me?

If you’re suffering from missing teeth, dental implant can restore your smile to its former brilliance. Not only do they look and feel like your natural teeth, but they also help stimulate your jawbone so you retain bone density that you would otherwise lose due to missing teeth. Likewise, implants can prevent your remaining natural teeth from shifting out of alignment into the space left behind by the missing teeth.
